It all began with a few music students from DePaul University who got together playing as a band, on and off campus. Their band members grew to seven players and started to name the band, 'The Big Thing'. When 'The Big Thing' was too big to handle, they changed their name to 'Chicago Transit Authority' and later after the Authority got lost in transit, the band's name was shortened to just 'Chicago'.
